LAST issue I shared pictures of our four grandkids in this space. This time, let’s catch up with the opposite end of the Stone family tree: Bec and me!
Becky did a lot of performing in 2017—in Colorado and Ohio as well as locally. In particular, she did frequent one-person historical portrayals (often in the Chautauqua format). She already had Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and Pauli Murray (a 1940’s lawyer, Episcopal priest, and civil rights activist) in her repertoire. This year she added a superb performance as Maya Angelou (left)…My major 2017 gardening feat (right) was finally building a secure garden fence. (Take that, you bean-eating bunnies!) It wasn’t that hard a project—until I decided the entire welded-wire fence should be buried a foot deep!
…I also helped The Lord’s Acre, our local non-profit hunger garden, raise the money to hire Vanessa Champlin (left) to be a much-needed Executive Director (visit us at www.thelordsacre.org to learn more about this astounding project).
…Now as I said, Becky is the real performer, but occasionally I’ll get to pair up with her. For instance, we shared children’s stories and songs at Asheville’s famous Biltmore House (right).
